XNKx-2.3; heart
XNKx-2.3, nucleic acid
Cloned and characterized by Ondine Cleaver in Paul Krieg's lab.
Homeobox gene expressed in developing heart and head endoderm. Cloned independently by S.Evans et al., (1995), and named XNKX-2.3. Overexpression results in the development of enlarged hearts (Cleaver et al., 1996).

Stage 30 expression in myocardium, pharyngeal arches and head endoderm.

(1995) Tinman, a Drosophila homeobox gene required for heart and viceral mesoderm specification, maybe represented by a family of genes in vertebrates: XNKX-2.3, a second vertebrate homolog of Tinman. Development 121, 3889-3899. And Cleaver, O.B., Patterson, K. and Krieg, P.A. (1996). Overexpression of the tinman-related genes XNkx-2.5 and XNkx-2.3 in Xenopus embryos results in myocardial hyperplasia. Development 122 (11): 3549-3556.
