Xnot, nucleic acid

Homeobox gene initially expressed throughout the embryo but becomes restricted to the organizer region and presumptive notochord. Cloned by von Dassow, Schmidt and Kimelman (1993). These images are from Salic et al. Development 124, 4739-4748 (1997).

Vegetal view of stage 11-11.5 embryo, dorsal is up. Xnot staining appears blue. The light green stain in the ventral mesoderm corresponds to szl expression. See Salic et al. Development 124, 4739-4748 (1997).

Xnot expression (green) in presumptive notochord in stage 12 embryo, dorsal view. The unusual color of this staining is due to unusual graphics translation. The original figure indicates a normal blue stain.
