Apoptosis patterns in developing Xenopus embryos detected via TUNEL

These images of programmed cell death patterns analyzed by whole-mount in situ DNA end-labeling technique (TUNEL: TdT-mediated dUTP digoxigenin nick end labeling) were submitted by Jean Gautier.

For a detailed descriptions of the images and TUNEL protocols, please see: Hensey C. and Gautier J. (1998). Program cell death during Xenopus development: a spatio-temporal analysis. Dev. Biol. 203, 36-48. TUNEL protocols are also available on the XMMR in the methods section, as are protocols for pcd measurement via ELISA, both submitted by Gert Veenstra.
