Developmental Biology Call for Papers: Ions instruct morphogenesis
Ion channels are emerging as critical regulators in diverse animals from planaria to humans. For example, mutations in ion channels are associated with craniofacial and limb abnormalities in frogs, mice, and humans. While we have long known that cascades of ligands, receptors, kinases, and transcription factors participate in developmental signaling to instruct morphogenesis, less is known how cellular ion concentration impacts morphogenesis. This issue will include exciting research illuminating mechanisms by which ions impact developmental cell signaling, morphogenesis, and ultimately tissue pattern in diverse organisms.
