The cdc20b protein is a cell cycle regulator that functions as an activator of the anaphase-promoting complex/cyclosome (APC/C), targeting specific substrates for ubiquitin-mediated degradation to promote metaphase-to-anaphase transition and mitotic exit. Its expression is detected from gastrula through tailbud developmental stages, with prominent localization in the neural plate, notochord, and somites during neurulation. During mitosis, the protein localizes to the spindle apparatus and chromosomes, while in interphase it is found in the nucleus. It plays a role in the timely degradation of cyclin B2 to control the pace of early embryonic cell cycles. [-]
