The chrna10 gene encodes a nicotinic acetylcholine receptor subunit, which is a component of a ligand-gated ion channel acting as a neurotransmitter receptor. In development, it is expressed in cranial ganglia, specifically the trigeminal and profundal placodes, and dorsal root ganglia. Expression is also detected in the pineal gland and, post-metamorphosis, within the inner nuclear layer and ganglion cell layer of the retina.
