The chmp3 protein is a core subunit of the endosomal sorting complex required for transport iii (ESCRT-III). It functions in membrane remodeling processes, including cytokinesis and multivesicular body formation for endosomal sorting. The protein localizes to the cytoplasm and membranes of late endosomes. Expression is observed during embryogenesis in the blastula, gastrula, neural tube, and branchial arches. [-]
