The tnfrsf21 gene encodes a type i transmembrane protein and tumor necrosis factor receptor superfamily member functioning as a death receptor. It localizes to the plasma membrane and transduces apoptotic signals through intracellular death domains that recruit caspase signaling machinery. Expression is detected in the developing retina, and it induces apoptosis in retinal cells during development. The protein is pro-apoptotic when activated by its specific ligand. [-]
