AI Protein Function : cntn1 encodes a membrane‑bound cell adhesion molecule of the immunoglobulin superfamily that localizes to the plasma membrane and growth cone surface. It mediates homophilic and heterophilic adhesion, promotes neurite extension, guides axons, and supports neuronal differentiation and synapse formation. Expression is observed in the brain, spinal cord, retina, cranial ganglia and peripheral nervous system during development. The protein functions as a signaling scaffold at cell‑cell contacts in neural tissues.
