The gpc4 protein is a membrane-anchored heparan sulfate proteoglycan of the glypican family, attached to the plasma membrane via a glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI) anchor. It functions as a coreceptor for Wnt11, facilitating non-canonical Wnt/PCP signaling which directs convergent extension movements during gastrulation and neural tube closure. This protein is involved in regulating neural crest cell migration, muscle development, and left-right patterning. Expression is observed in the notochord, somites, brain, spinal cord, cement gland, branchial arches, heart, and pronephros. It modulates signaling by interacting with Wnt ligands and other components of the Wnt pathway. [-]
